Thanks in no small part to the generous support of HD-Cinema, Inc., they were able to secure the Sony CineAlta HDW-F900 for principal photography. As the camera of choice for many independent features (Me and You and Everyone We Know) as well as big-budget films like Star Wars, the CineAlta allowed them to shoot at a higher-quality than ever before while still utilizing their predominately digital video-based backgrounds. In terms of post-production, Team Sound and Vision (a company Doyle interned with over the summer of 2003) also proved enormously helpful throughout the course of the production and without their help the film would’ve never been completed.

Last but certainly not least, the crew was extremely honored by the interest of several actors outside of their usual troop of dedicated performers. Knowing that the parts of Claire and Cofi would be extremely difficult to cast locally, Swartz and Rosenberg began to search outside of Ohio for actors capable of bringing life to the roles. Imagine their excitement when their first choice for Claire (Larisa Oleynik) and Cofi (Owiso Odera) accepted their respective parts almost immediately, completing the seven character ensemble that serves as the anchor of the film. Coupled with the fact that one of Rosenberg’s favorite character actors, Jack Kehler (Love Liza, The Big Lebowski), loved the script and was willing to make the not-so-common Hollywood-to-Ohio trek for one day of filming, things have come along quite well for the dedicated team behind Relative Obscurity.

While no one can be certain what the future holds, Rosenberg, Swartz, Doyle, Houck and the rest of the extremely talented cast and crew, are eager to complete post-production on this labor of love so they can show the world a film that they had never seen: an honest, dramatic, portrayal of a previously unspoken-for generation. And who knows? Maybe a few years down the road, after it has found success with festivals and distributors alike, it will help spawn many groups of young hard-working individuals, to discover their own missions and follow their own paths to success.
